Attending the Cybersecurity Competitions Workshop hosted by OSTP with panels from CyberPatriot, the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), and U.S. Cyber Challenge (USCC).

Jeff Moss attended the workshop and spoke on how team dynamics and competition strategies can be steered to better simulate real world scenarios.  He mentioned the connotations placed on cyber security terminology may set negative or violent tone on hackers.  A lot of these phrases are based on war.  There are “cyber bombs”, “kill chains”, and “boots on the ground”.  This gives a false impression on how cyber security concepts work.  Using the example, if a country were to throw a cyber bomb at us, we can pack it up and throw the same code back at them.
